Bill Charmatz Art Gallery Re-opens in Mt. Shasta, California!

Mt Shasta is a beautiful 14,000 Ft Alpine Mountain, part of the West Coast Cascade Mountain range. Mt. Shasta is known for world class downhill and back country skiing, outdoor adventure and recreation including, mountaineering, hiking, fly fishing, trail riding, kayaking, rafting to name a few. The mountain town of 3,000, is located approximately 1 Hr from the Southern Oregon Border, deep in the Great Northern part of California. Medford International airport is about 1.5 hrs from Mt. Shasta. Redding airport is 1 Hr away.

Katrina Charmatz, Bill’s daughter and Director of Sales and Marketing of the collection, states “By keeping Bill's art collection viable, and out in front of the public eye is important to continue the legacy of my dad’s artwork. Much of his editorial work is still relevant in our everyday world”. Referring to many of published assignments Bill did for The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, Time Magazine, Washington Post, and TV guide.”

The Gallery and the website now offer limited edition Giclee prints of Bill Charmatz originals, a multi-media experience featuring 14 minute biographical documentary film on the legacy and career of the artist

With Mt. Shasta known for its skiing and winter sports and Bill’s assignments for Sports Illustrated, as a weekly column artist which began in the early 1960s, the gallery has an impressive collection of Bill’s ski art. As the illustrator for Sports Illustrated for over 20 years, Bill was assigned several major painting assignments that depicted European ski scenes. Katrina reminisced, “When i was about 8 years old, My dad and I went to Avoriaz Resort in the French Alps and also went to Flaine Resort in Switzerland.

Sports Illustrated paid for my dad’s trip  and I went along as his “assistant”. I have lots of wonderful memories from those trips, a fur-lined discotheque,  amazing mountain vistas, and ski runs lasted forever! It seemed like hours to ski down beautiful packed powder wide runs, with amazing views. Being in the French and Swiss Alps reminds me of the Mt Shasta Mountains and wilderness.”

As well as the editorial work for major international publications, the Bill Charmatz Gallery offers for sale, many of Bill’s extensive personal original collection of dogs, horses, cats, French sketches, Civil War battlefield scenes and humorous spot art.

During the 2020 pandemic, when the gallery had physically re-located from Petaluma, California  (located in Sonoma County, California) north to Mt.Shasta, there were so many health and safety restrictions for indoor activities, the gallery remained on a very limited access to the public.

“Its very good to have the Gallery re-opened once again, along with an active campaign to make the billcharmatz.com website more robust and offer original art and prints for sale online.”
